Tents, campervans and motorhomes soared in popularity in 2020 because the restrictions on international travel stopped most of us going abroad for our holidays. 2020 was a record-breaking year for camping and 2021 is looking likely to follow suit!
We were helped by the weather last year as we seemed to have sunshine all the way through to Christmas. 2021 is looking slightly less kind, with a few more spots of rain.
For those of you who made the investment in tents, campervans, and motorhomes, I have pulled together some useful tips for camping in the UK when the country is not in the grip of a heatwave.
Ten Top Tips
- Invest in big plastic boxes as they are great for organisation and they stack much better than bags.
- Use a small kettle and only boil the water you need as this will save you gas.
- Pack 2 more blankets than you think you will need.
- Take food with you for the first night in case you arrive when everything is shut – a cooked pizza is ideal – but keep it in a cool box during the journey.
- About showers. Take a big clean carrier bag to keep your clothes dry and a pair of flip flops will keep your clean feet clean.
- Get a good night’s sleep. Take a hat to wear in bed and a hot water bottle will keep you toastie warm.
- Pack chairs, snacks and drinks last so when you arrive you can have a brief chill before setting up.
- If all other campers have set up hugging the hedges of a clifftop campsite – it’s probably for a good reason.
- Pack Gaffer tape – why? Just do it, you will thank me later!
- Take your car keys out of the tent pocket before you pack your tent away.
Camping is a great way to reduce stress, see more of the countryside, and get more fresh air and exercise, I’m going next weekend and I can’t wait.
