How we found our way into manufacturing wood-and-metal contract furniture.
We have just launched our wood and metal contract furniture furniture division, and we couldn’t be more excited! In fact it was really a natural progression, and this is how and why it happened.
Since 2016 we have diversified into producing metal frames for wood-based contract furniture. Then came the pandemic and we were determined to make an opportunity from the adversity we were all going through.
Diversification and expansion
During this time we did some work which was directly related to Covid-19; we designed and manufactured branded hand sanitiser stands and we also fabricated ventilator cases. Later in the year, we co-designed and produced our TX3 elite home squat rack with para-athlete Jack Eyers who has since won several gold medals for Britain, (we like to think the TX3 helped him a little bit along the way!). We invested in expanding our range of metal frame beds for camper van conversions. And we got even more involved in producing metal frames for wood-based contract furniture, which is the story behind this blog.
We started seeing an increase in enquiries for metal frames for office furniture. Many of the end users were providers of serviced office spaces, looking for someone to manufacture their bespoke-design contract furniture. We were developing and producing metal frames to be assembled with joinery and it is the metal work where many of the bespoke features lie.
We were working closely with customers to ensure the wood and metal elements came together perfectly, but when you’re working across two separate manufacturers there is always a risk that some final tweaking might be needed, potential causing subsequent delays.
One Stop Shop
This led us to thinking about creating an integrated manufacturing company which could make the entire wood-and-metal product all ‘under one roof’. Thus making it easier for clients to get exactly what they want.
A conversation with one of our customers got both parties thinking about how well we could work together. Several months later that customer, Matt Craze, who is an expert in all things wood, has joined our Senior Team! He now heads up the new Contract Furniture Division and we are delighted.
Matt previously ran his own very successful business, in North Devon. He has done stunning work with designers, architects and project managers as well as private clients, including Drummonds, Penhaligon and Liberty. As you can imagine, he brings with him a huge breadth and depth of experience in the manufacture and delivery of bespoke, office and commercial furniture.
We have a perfect marriage of our metal work expertise and Matt’s woodworking skills. This appointment means that we now offer that one-stop-shop service for bulk quantities of bespoke, free-standing furniture, and interior fixtures.
What Matt has to say about our wood and metal contract furniture
“Having worked with the team at Dymond for years as a customer, I know that I can rely on the quality of their metal work to complement my woodworking skills completely. Together, we are now able to offer market-leading office and commercial fixtures and furniture made from wood and metal.
We are specialising in batch production, using CNC equipment to form machine wood, ply sheet or other materials and bring that together with the metal frames, all under one roof.
This way you know it will fit together! You don’t have to wait until the components arrive from different suppliers to see how well they fit”. Matt Craze.
We are currently working on projects which include desks, tables, benches, and shelves. More news on those to follow!
